Lot size versus home size

The latest trend in home building shows that homeowners are building bigger homes on smaller lots. This could be due to more multi-family buildings being built, i.e. condos and townhomes, or it could have something to do with older homes in denser areas being bought, torn down, with much bigger homes being built on the same lot.

Whatever the case may be, it appears that the popular theme is more bedrooms and bathrooms, and less yard to mow. Most trends are cyclical, but it appears that this one will likely continue indefinitely. Could be a few years, could be decades, but in the short term, it appears that homeowners prefer more carpet and less grass.
